CURRENT CLINICAL STUDY SEEKS A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PATIENTS WITH HEART FAILURE

Professor Dr. Johann Bauersachs and Professor Dr. Udo Bavendiek have recently launched the DIGIT-HF study - a large clinical trial focusing on treatment for heart failure. This study will examine the crucial and to date unresolved question of whether treatment with digitalis, originally derived from the foxglove plant, can help to reduce hospitalisation time and extend life years in patients with advanced heart failure.

The study, which is set to run over five years, has already recruited over 40 clinics and practices nationwide.  Following a very positive evaluation by independent experts, DIGIT-HF will be financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with a grant of EUR 3.2 million.

The study is actively seeking to include other hospitals, medical practices and interested patients.
